Nitrogen Rate Calculator (Yield Goal)
Estimate a starting nitrogen rate from your yield goal, minus soil and previous-crop credits.

How it's calculated
N to apply = (yield goal × crop N factor) − soil-test N − previous-crop credits. Typical factors: cotton ~55 lb N per bale, grain sorghum and corn ~1.1 lb N per bushel, wheat ~2.0 lb N per bushel.
This is a starting estimate only. Nitrogen recommendations vary by region, soil and price — always confirm with a soil test and your local Extension guide.
Row Wise builds field-specific nutrient plans and variable-rate nitrogen prescriptions from your management zones and in-season imagery.

How do you calculate nitrogen rate from a yield goal?
Multiply your realistic yield goal by the crop's nitrogen factor (pounds of N per unit of yield), then subtract credits for soil-test nitrate and any nitrogen from a previous legume or manure.
How much nitrogen does cotton need?
A common planning figure is about 50–60 pounds of nitrogen per bale of expected lint, adjusted down for residual soil nitrogen. Over-applying N on cotton delays maturity, so err toward the lower end.
Is this a substitute for a soil test?
No. This estimates a starting rate; a current soil test and your state Extension's nitrogen guide should set the final number. Row Wise refines it per field and growth stage.
